What Is Fourth & Wy

These posts are always awkward. How am I supposed to get y’all to like me right off the bat with some random blurb about why I’m here? Should I crack a joke? Should I try to sell you a sob story? There’s no “right” way to do this, I guess. All I can do is yap and hope I say something interesting enough to keep y’all coming back.

Here goes nothing!

Hey, I’m Wyatt, Wy for short. I used to always love having a blog to get a lot of these random thoughts out of my head (and not annoy my wife by talking her ear off at all hours of the day), but it’s been almost a decade since I’ve done so. I worked in journalism for a few years back then, and it somewhat dimmed my desire to write as a hobby. The hustle of having to get stories out daily with tight deadlines in the esports/gaming space pretty much rewired my brain to associate writing with stress and crunch time. It was no longer a creative outlet. BUT. It’s been a while. I’m ready, and I’ve got plenty to say.

A large part of why I’ve got so much to say is that I’ve recently fully rekindled my love for sports, especially football. Back in college, I used to watch religiously every single week. But somewhere along the way between getting married, having a kid, and working full-time, I just fell away from sports. In the last year or so, I really started digging into my sports fan bag, and it’s been so incredibly rewarding. It started with picking up Formula 1 last summer and continued with fully investing myself in the NFL during the playoffs earlier this year. I’ll get into my fandoms in a future post (it’s complicated, but GO BIRDS and GO HAWKS).

As we started to wrap up 2025, I suddenly got the itch to start writing again, and here we are on Fourth & Wy.

This will primarily be a space to blab about all things NFL, with everything from game previews to recaps to news breakdowns to opinion pieces about certain aspects of the league to everything in between. But it won’t be just that. I’ll sprinkle in plenty of F1 content and the occasional gaming blurb as a way to fully reclaim that part of my life that I lost to being chewed up and spit out by the industry. As a black man in America, you can expect me to have something to say about some of the unfortunate things we deal with in this country from time to time, as well.

Basically, Fourth & Wy is me, put to paper.

I’m opinionated.

I have a lot to say.

And I hope y’all enjoy your stay.
